Here is how we've been beating the heat the past couple days!
Part 1: Blueberry Picking with Calia, who is visiting from Texas.
I snapped this picture in the car to document Nory's latest friend of choice, Pig. The best thing about Pig is that he has a twin (I think I got a pig from my work each time I had a kid). Two pigs means that I avoid the last minute mad search through the house right before bedtime!
This beautiful curly red hair belongs to my college friend Calia. So nice to see her and meet her two kids! The monkey on her back is Ilane.
Abby (H) brought a play pen for her daughter, and I used it to contain Elliott for a little while.
The girls picked as many berries as they could eat. The few surplus that ended up in the bucket were gobbled up by Elliott.
H.O.T. We all drank lots of water! Elliott just loves my water bottle. I have stopped bothering to bring sippy cups for the kids, now we just all share - which is a little gross, to be honest.
Here were the friends who went blueberry picking! Grownups: Abby, Judy, Abby, Calia. Kids: Xaris, Susanna, Nory. Babies: Lydia, Elliott, Ilane, baby Nelson (eta Thanksgiving 2012). (Gosh I look short. Has having short kids made me shorter?) Elliott was wildly outnumbered by the ladies. Although Calia's husband Ricardo was also there and had his SLR so I hope to see some better pictures of this event too someday!
Nory loves Susanna, but was a little suspicious of Xaris. Susanna, who apparently inherited her mom's sweet personality and the ability to love everyone immediately, was ready to be friends with everyone.

I loved seeing you and meeting your kiddos too!! And Nory's suspicion is come by honestly--Xaris is a crazy nut! Smart people are suspicious of her. And yes, Susanna is sweet, but to be fair, she has had multiple play dates with Xaris (that was the third time they had seen each other that week), plus all the Skype dates they have and had talked about this visit...the advantage was entirely in her favor. ;)
