Look who's walking!

Nory has been taking steps for a couple weeks - two here, three there. But she waited until her grandma and grandpa flew in from Wisconsin for her big walking debut! I am so glad they got to see this!

She made it back and forth across the living room probably 10 times before she got tired and had to be whisked off to bed.

Hooray Nory!

Jackson Wyatt turns 1

Now HERE is a kid who knows how to enjoy birthday cake!

And our friend Summer was also at the party in this adorable hat.

the Dress

Nory got this amazing Dress as a gift at a baby shower from our friends Jayant and Rina (and their son Sid) before she was born.

It was the perfect thing for her first birthday. However, the weather was too hot for a dress at her birthday so she didn't get to wear much of it.

So the next weekend Dan and I went to the park and made Nory wear her cute dress so we could take some pictures.

Unfortunately, THIS time it was too cold for the cute dress.

That's the thing with Santa Barbara - the forecast always says: SUNNY! 70 degrees! But that never stops the weather from being a high of 87 one day and a high of 60 the next.

We still got a few shots in before we wrapped up the baby and headed home! *LOVE* the Dress!

Didn't get enough of the Dress? Look here for more pictures!

Oops...

Okay so I am feeling a little bit guilty for turning Nory's car seat face forward on her birthday, for which your child is technically supposed to be 20 pounds... it turns out that my extrapolation of her weight was off by a couple pounds. We went to the doctor this morning for Nory's one year check-up and here were the results:

Height: 28 inches
Weight: 18lb 13oz
H.C.: 17 1/4 inches

She has slunk down to the 15th percentile in all categories! However, the doctor declared her "perfect" (what every parent loves to hear), a healthy, happy, and active one year old!

A couple funny conversations (how am I supposed to know, I'm new at this!).

Doctor: She looks great!
Me: Well, if you ignore the skid marks on her forehead and nose.*
Doctor: That's how we can tell they're healthy!**

...

Me: How much milk should she be drinking every day?
Doctor: Oh, it varies, but probably for her age she should be drinking about 24oz per day.
Me: Um, oh.
Doctor: How much is she drinking now?
Me: Oh, you know...
Doctor: [silence]
Me: About 10 ounces?***

*Funny story about those skid marks, they came into existence while I was watching Nory less than 1 foot from me. Oh, she'll be just fine climbing up on that bottom shelf in Sears! It's only 2 inches off the ground! She couldn't possibly hurt herself on that!

**This is why I love our pediatrician.

***Seriously, if she drank 24 ounces of milk a day I don't think she'd eat anything else!

Birthday Part 4

For Nory's birthday, also known as Mother's Day, we went to the zoo. It was nice to have a relaxed afternoon after the big party the day before!

We started the day by moving the car seat face forward. For those of you who haven't had a baby in recent years, you may not understand just how exciting this was! Nory was never particularly bad in the car seat, but now she loves it. Every time I peek back at her she giggles. It is very cute!

At the zoo we enjoyed a picnic lunch and pictures before visiting the animals. Nory was so happy to have her grandparents there!

Hello Kitty! What does the kitty say? Meow!

Nory got to see most of the zoo from the arms of her adoring nana (and if my mom's arms aren't sore this week, I'm no judge of how heavy my kid is!).

Nory is really starting to enjoy the zoo - she waves at all of the animals and laughs when she sees them moving around. However, she also waved with equal enthusiasm to the empty otter exhibit, so I guess we still have some room to grow.

What a fun day! Happy birthday Nory!

My stomach is lined with muslin

Dan always says that his stomach is lined with steel. If that's the case, I think it is safe to say that mine is lined with muslin. Or maybe mosquito netting. All three Kleins got some sort of food-sickness/stomach bug this week. Nory threw up twice in one afternoon and was fine by the next morning. Dan took about a day and a half to recover. Me? Still nauseous... and we're going on day 4. I guess this explains part of why I had morning sickness for 6 months when I was pregnant, while most people only have it for 6 weeks; why I get motion sick by even thinking about boats, cars, or airplanes; and why 3-D movies seem like the worse invention since roller coasters.

PS Two sick adults taking care of one healthy child = eeeeeek!

Birthday Part 3

Also known as, the after party.

When most of our guests had made their way home, we moved the party inside and gave Nory her present from Dan and I - this super cute chair! Samuel liked the chair too... but Nory wasn't about to be bullied.

Nory still loves her chair. She mostly loves to climb up it and dive over the arms. Have I mentioned she is not a very cautious child?

Birthday Part 2

Because really, how could I NOT post these photos?

Ava

I'm one!

Frosting? No thanks!

Hi Camilla!

Nory clapped along to the birthday song

This pretty dress was a gift from her friend Sid, in Washington

Peek-A-Boo!

Birthday Part 1

We celebrated Nory's birthday on Saturday. My parents drove up from Redlands to celebrate with us, which was great considering that there is nobody I'd rather have helping me throw a party than my mom!

The guests: My parents plus about 15 other adults, plus about 7 kids

Nory and Emma Joy

Hooray, I "blew" out the candles!

Lisa and me eating cake and drinking margaritas!

The food: Mini burgers (with heart shaped cheese), mini bagels and cream cheese, strawberries, watermelon, two huge salads (pasta and cabbage), and two cakes (both made by extremely talented friends of mine).

Sandra made this amazing Strawberry Pavlova (she was a professional pastry chef in London before moving to SB)

Erika made this super cute cow cake - it even had licorice eye lashes!

The drinks: homemade margaritas (which turned out better than expected), homemade lemonade (which turned out worse than expected), wine, beer, and apple juice.

The activities: I borrowed everything from my friend Erika who owns the preschool across the parking lot from us. We had a wooden tunnel with cutout holes, a tent, a tunnel, plastic cars, and (a last minute addition) a kiddie pool. By 9:30 Saturday morning we realized it would be too hot for the kids to be hanging out in the yard, so we set up the pool - it was a huge hit! Of course nobody was prepared so within 15 minutes of the start of the party most of the kids were nearly naked.

Nory wore her birthday dress for the first 5 minutes or so!

Nory wore this outfit for the second half of the party!

Camilla, Erika's daughter

Samuel loved the pool until he pooped in it!

Jackson was very adventurous

Everyone had a great time, kids and grownups alike! Nory only cried when I tried to put her in the pool the first time - I guess it was a little colder than her normal bath! Also, she didn't really like the cake, but we smeared some on her face anyway :).

Happy Birthday Nory!
