Update: Dan asked me to clarify what I meant by "extremely hot," since he is worried that some people might take this out of the context of Santa Barbara. By "extremely hot" I meant that it was at least 80 degrees. No, not the humid type of 80, just the regular old sunny type of 80.
When an extremely hot Sunday afternoon rolled around last weekend and our schedules were mysteriously and wonderfully clear, Dan suggested we hit the beach. I take Nory to the beach often enough that I understand that a significant amount of work goes into beach trips; and when Dan grabbed our lawn chairs and a magazine, thinking we could sit around while Nory played in the sand, I knew that he was in for a surprise. Nevertheless, we still managed to have a wonderful, if not relaxing, afternoon at the beach. Being the parent sans expensive camera, I was also the parent who chased Nory into the water over and over.

The dress didn't last long for obvious reasons. Nory required a little extra help to step out of the water for long enough to change.
Nory loves the waves. She will actually (usually) allow me to hold her hand while the waves crash into her legs. After every wave she would do a little dance and laugh and then grab my hand again while waiting for the next wave.
Sometimes, she wouldn't let me hold her hand. Then this happened.
I was very grateful to be taller than Nory. Eventually she got too cold and wandered back to the (empty) chairs for a sandy cheerios and pretzels snack.
Hooray for beach days!
