Camping

Earlier this summer (beginning of June - oops!) we went camping. It was the first time taking all 5 of us (4 humans + finny) so obviously reinforcements were needed.

Reinforcements

Linden and Elsa provided all the cooking gear and know-how, as well as firewood. Those camp stoves always confuse me and who better than the person who invents them (Linden) to be our designated camp stove operator?

We camped at Salmon La Sac campground near Cle Elum. The campsite was right against a beautiful (but not too deep) river, there were no bugs, the weather was chilly at night but not terrible, and there was even a kayak race in another part of the campground for our entertainment. It was a great choice of campground (and camping companions!).

4 person tent for 4 people = not really big enough.

4 person car for 4 people + dog + camping gear = not really big enough. This trip really pushed me over the edge into a minivan.

We camped for two nights and on Saturday we went on a lovely hike just up the road. It wasn't too steep which was nice since we hiked about 9 miles (round trip) to Pete lake. I was very, very glad to have brought kid-carrying auntie and uncle along! Nory did hike a fair bit on her own but couldn't really hike through the snowy part of the trail or river crossings.

These two. He adores her.

Finny slept for days afterwards. All in all it was a very successful first camping trip. The first night, Elliott kept wiggling out of his sleeping bag (he sleeps like a ferris wheel) and then waking up freezing. The second night I zipped our sleeping bags together to give him more space and that worked much better. I can't wait to go again!

What a great trip. And super good pictures! We now think camping is living in a trailer and really going all out is going to be when we build a fire pit outside :-)
