Out of the Fog and into Home Depot

Dan and I are slowly, by baby steps, coming out of the fog of having a second child and starting to "reclaim our life," or do things that we used to do before Elliott was born. One of these things is home improvement.

Home improvement is something that we loved doing when we owned our old, charming-but-full-of-surprises 1912 home in Kirkland, but we took a break when we moved to Santa Barbara and lived in rentals for a while. We are starting small in our new home by changing out all of the outlets, light switches, and door knobs: almond colored for white, gold for "oil rubbed bronze" (black).

Of course, home improvement isn't quite as easy as it used to be...

These new tamper proof (aka kid proof) outlets are cool.

It is not unusual to find screw drivers and light switches in, say, a boot or a cupboard or Nory's bed, instead of in the toolbox. But it feels good to be doing some home improvement no matter how small or how slow; we are realizing as parents of two that something is better than nothing.
