Walking

In the queue of mobility, first came rolling. Rolling was cute. We'd leave Nory for a few seconds, come back in the room, and she'd be under her crib.

Then came sitting. Sitting was nice - it meant that for the most part Nory would stay where I put her. At the very least, in the same room.

Next was crawling. Crawling was tricky because it gave Nory the ability to get into everything in any room of the house. Fortunately, Nory happens to be a stompasaurus crawler - she slaps her hands on the wood floor as loud as they can possibly slap. So most of the time, even if I took my eyes off of her, I could tell where she was.

But now she's walking. Walking is tricky. Because for the most part, walking is quiet. Suddenly you turn around and - hey! Where'd the baby go! Oops the back door is open, and she's walking out it! I'm considering getting her one of those cow bells... I fear that when walking becomes running, I might find her across the parking lot at the play ground! (Or, more practically, I guess I'll have to start locking the doors). Walking also makes being Out a little more difficult - because it turns out that a baby who can walk doesn't necessarily like being in a shopping cart or stroller. I have also noticed that a baby who can walk is no longer content to play in the bottom two drawers or shelves which have been cleaned out of dangerous items. The baby who can walk would much rather see what is in that top drawer that I keep opening.

I will say, though, that walking is fun. Walking means no more filthy hands! (Except, of course, that she still falls an awful lot, which results in dirty hands - so really, fewer filthy hands) As long as we aren't in a hurry to get anywhere, having a walk-along sidekick is much more fun (and comfortable) than carrying my kiddo.

And no new pictures or videos for now. It's a long sad story involving the new little c camera, version 2 of which is now sitting unopened on top of the microwave, waiting for Dan's permission to use it (he is trying to convince me to return it to the store and get a new iPodPhone 4 - what do you think?).

You go right ahead and use that camera. I'll happily take the new ipodphone 4.

How fun. I like walking stage. Crawling is my least favorite. Don't know why. Probably because of things like this morning when all Moira wants to do is be upright and all she can do is crawl and she is very angry about that. She will not let her hands or bum touch the floor without tears.

Oh, and my sister was a stealthy walker and always into something. My mom tied little bells onto her shoes because she couldn't ever find her until she'd done something such as unload the Entire changing table onto the floor. Even I remember that one.
