She didn't come in last place, either, although the 1k was open to all kids 10 & under so she was by no means in the front (and I think everyone behind her was walking). I did give her my own personal first place prize for cuteness, and I'm pretty sure she was the smallest and possibly youngest person to run the whole race. Our friend Siddarth ran too, with his dad Jayant.
A lot of excitement for something that lasts less than 10 minutes, but still totally fun! Nory almost wouldn't cross the finish line because the Mariner Moose was there to greet her.
Nory and Sid - could they be any cuter?
Funny note about her shoes - I bought them a couple weeks ago on clearance at REI after signing Nory up for the race and realizing she didn't own sneakers after recently outgrowing her last pair. The man at REI measured her foot and we got shoes in a slightly too big size so she could wear them for a longer time. She tried them on, wore them around the store, and said they were comfy. We bought them and left. She then proceeded to wear them for the next hour or so. Eventually she started complaining that her sock didn't feel quite right and her toes were hurting her. I took them off determined to return them to REI and wondering how her toes could be hitting the end of shoes that I had specifically bought a size too big. And then I realized that the paper was still stuffed in the toe of both shoes. Which just goes to show you that you can't trust a 3 year old to try on something and tell you whether it fits!
