My day "off"

I only work three days a week, how nice!  Well I used to imagine my days off going something like this:

Sleep in, have a nice breakfast with my kid, get everyone dressed, go to a park, mom's group, or zoo, come home and have lunch, put Nory down for a nap, read a book or knit with a cup of tea during Nory's nap, get her up and take her and Finny on a walk or to a park, maybe stop by REI, come home, make dinner (which would be on the table when my sweet husband came home from work).

In reality, my days off are more like today:

Wake up early because Dan's alarm goes off early, have breakfast with Dan, get kid up, make her breakfast (twice, she's a big eater), get her dressed, spend 1 hour looking for a pair of socks for her, fold 4 loads of laundry, pull her socks from yesterday out of the washer and blow dry them, race down to the vehicle licensing office to get new license plates, learn that we don't have the right paperwork (this conversation happened at a million decibels because Nory was throwing a huge, on the floor, foot stomping and head banging fit which started about 5 seconds after they finally called my number, and no amount of stickers/food/sippy cup bribes could stop it (she wanted the diaper bag, which happened to be full of all of the important documents we own because I wasn't sure what I would need)), walk across the mall in the rain carrying my still screaming child to Old Navy where I bought 14 new pairs of socks for Nory, drive home, cook and eat lunch, put Nory down for a nap, wash diapers, fold more laundry, empty dishwasher, clean kitchen, pay bills, get Nory up,  put on all her rain gear, put on my rain gear (which leaks), walk dog, strip off rain gear from all parties, clean mud off dog, feed Nory a snack, go to the grocery, drive across town in traffic for my midwife appointment at 6, get home at 7:45, make the world's fastest dinner, feed kid (husband bathed kid, so happy to have help at this point in the day!), put kid in bed 1 hour late.

Still on the list: go through all of the paperwork which is currently in a huge pile in the front entry (it came out of a desk but the desk is now in storage) looking for California car title, get the mail, drag in the trash cans from the street, put away the groceries, pick up the house (someone is coming to do an assessment tomorrow because our landlord is refinancing), stuff diapers, sleep.

And the dog just threw up.

And did I mention that my back hurts constantly?  It did when I was pregnant with Nory too.  I am literally in pain any time I'm not laying down.  Midwife recommends not carrying Nory so much.  Ha. "Up" is pretty much tied with "mommy" and "more" these days.

The silver linings of my day:

Midwife was fantastic, and Nory learned to say "google."  Not sure if I should be proud or embarrassed. And I turned on the Christmas station on Pandora and it's been on all day!  It is also fun that Nory is talking a lot more.  One of her favorite new sayings is "I help."  This means that whatever you were working on is about to take 5 times longer, but it is so cute that it is worth it!

You did just move, which adds all sorts of things that you wouldn't otherwise be doing. At least you got the laundry folded in the search for socks! It sounds like Dan is responsible for the new-found familiarity with search engines. Who are you seeing for your midwifery care?

Maybe after your settled things will get a bit better!

Google??? Hey what about all those other words like, you know, "milk" or "food" or "let's play"? Dan, Google? Guess she will need her own internet baby computer for Christmas!

Don't worry Judy...it will be so much easier when baby Klein #2 arrives...they will entertain each other...at least that's what my neighbor said who talked me into getting a second dog...
