Have I mentioned how Dan and Jen ended up living in Seward, Alaska this summer? Jen took a job as a park ranger at the Kenai Fjords National Park. She does a lot of different things for this job, but the majority of her work days she narrates the Major Marine Alaska Wildlife Cruise. Unfortunately for us, Jen was not our ranger on board (but she did help my brother babysit the first couple hours after we left, so I think it was a fair trade off). We did the mid-day cruise and Jen happened to be working the evening cruise that day.
You may recall from my previous post that boat is really the only way to see the Kenai Fjords National Park. This is also true of a lot of the wildlife in the area, which lives near the Harding Gateway (the entrance to Resurrection Bay from the Pacific Ocean). And boy howdy, we were not disappointed. We had an amazing tour, my face was pretty much glued to my binoculars for 5 hours and I think Dan went through more than 9 gigabytes of "film." A special thank you to the makers of Bonine, which kept me mostly nausea free for the whole ride!
We saw:
goats
Bear Glacier (and other glaciers)
Dall's Porpoises, who swam with the boat
Otters (this one is eating a crab)
And LOTS of birds:
Black-legged kittiwakes
Horned Puffins
Tuffed Puffins
Cormorants
Bald Eagle
And did I mention the Stellar Sea Lions?
Neither Nory nor Dan L were the worse for wear after my brother babysat for the entire afternoon, mostly by himself. I was thrilled that he could enjoy the time with his niece!

I think that's the last sunny day we've had this summer. Tell Nory we say hi and give her a big tree branch from us.
Oh wow! We didn't see all that stuff when we were in Seward...I think we need to revisit...
