Flowers and Wine

Dan made it back safe and relatively soundly. After catching up on our sleep Friday and Saturday, we were ready to adventure into the great outdoors on Sunday!

The weather was perfect (not too hot) and the wildflowers were blooming on Figueroa Mountain. So we drove up there, hiked a bit, took some pictures, and headed back down the mountain. Nory does not love being in the hiking backpack for very long so I tried putting her in the ERGO on my back - but as you can see in the photo her visibility was limited and this made her very grumpy. We are going to Alaska this summer so I am trying to train her to be able to sleep in the hiking backpack, but no success thus far (tips?).

Figueroa Mountain - a site worth seeing if you are ever in SoCal in March

Pretty!

Visibility - 0.

On the way back, we stopped to have a wonderful picnic and wine tasting at Bridlewood winery with the Freemans, some family friends of the Klein's. Marie Freeman and Nory

Loving the picnic!

Everything was delicious (especially the wine) and Nory loved the horses. She got to see and even pet Josie, a horse at the Freeman's house, and then we saw more horses pulling a buggy at Bridlewood. She wasn't sure for the first minute or so, but then she erupted into hooohoohoooo giggles and could not stop laughing the entire time the horse was in her line of vision. Goodness knows what she thinks it is - probably just an overgrown dog.

Anyway, we had a wonderful day. It was so nice for Dan to have an entire weekend free after being so busy for the last couple of months!

PS. Also you may notice in the pictures - Nory went from 2 teeth to 5 going on 7 (2 more broke through this weekend) in the last couple of weeks! Eek!

PPS. I think we can safely say, finally, that she is going to be blond. I hadn't been willing to call it earlier on account of lack of hair, but everything that has come in so far is very blond. Fun!

Wow!! X still has just the 2 teeth. She's getting jealous of all her friends who can chomp!

When I put Charlie in the ergo on my back I let him have his arms up and out all the way above the shoulder straps. It leaves his head out further so he can look around more. It does feel a little more wobbly when he leans(and harder on my shoulders), but he still can't fall out unless I do some seriously uncomfortable side bending, so I think it's fine. (Jonathan and I tested it)You might try it.

Also Charlie falls asleep in the Ergo if it is way past his nap time and I put a blanket over his head to block his vision. I don't know if some combination of that would work for the hiker.

Good ideas Keren, but we have some others.

1. Pre-hike-shot-o-whiskey
2. The ol' head down, legs up trick
3. Mount the pack on to Finny and let 'em roam
4. Creative use of Linux
